News... Printable Version Back To All Articles Voter Guide: Sharp Contrasts between State-Level Candidates October 24, 2009
With the elections just over one week away, we need to know now where candidates stand on the core “Family Values” issues that are important to so many Valley voters – and then share that information with others who may also like to know.
The Family Foundation’s non-partisan Voter Guide provides us with precisely that information on 10 key “Values” issues. You can get copies of the Guide and help distribute them to your church or other civic groups by contacting Valley Coordinator Brad Huddleston at (540) 833-4726 (H) or 820-0810 (cell), or by e-mail to brad.huddleston@tffaction.org.
So, where do the six state-level candidates listed below stand on these core issues?
Position Democrat Republican
For Governor Creigh Deeds Bob McDonnell
For Lt. Governor Jody Wagner Bill Bolling
For Attorney General Steve Shannon Ken Cuccinelli
Their responses to the Voter Guide questions expose stark differences between the two parties and their candidates. Two of those responses are reported below. (You can download the entire Guide, with explanatory notes, on http://www.tffaction.org/images/VA_State-bw_Final.pdf.)
------------
Q1. Would you support or oppose efforts to repeal the marriage amendment approved by the voters in 2006? (The amendment defines marriage as between only one man and one woman.)
A: All three Democratic candidates would “Support” an effort to repeal the amendment; the Republicans would all “Oppose”.
------------
Q2. Would you support or oppose efforts to ban state funding for private organizations that perform abortions? (Planned Parenthood is the largest of these organizations.)
A. All Democratic candidates would “Oppose” such a ban; the Republicans would all “Support”.
------------
Stay tuned for Part II on how Valley candidates for the five House seats in the General Assembly responded to these same questions.
